Making Time for What Matters: Balance in the Dailies

ree

Earlier this year I joined the She is His podcast episode, The Dailys: Finding Balance In Your Daily Life. We talked about the very real struggle of juggling all the things—family, ministry, work, friendships, and faith—and what balance actually looks like.

And no, balance isn’t a perfectly color-coded calendar or equal parts of everything. There’s not a teeter-totter in the world strong enough to hold every demand we face as women and still remain perfectly level. Life will always feel a little lopsided… and that’s okay. It has to be—right?

On the podcast, we shared three “anchors” to help steady your days in purpose and peace:

🧺 Surrender – Letting go of what God never asked you to carry

🧭 Stewardship – Learning to do the right things well, not all the things

🌿 Sacred Rhythms – Building a life that abides in Christ, not hustles for approval

This isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. It’s about walking with Jesus in the everyday moments and letting Him reorder your heart, mind, and schedule.

If you haven’t listened yet, I encourage you to head over to the podcast after reading. I’ll share the link at the end of this article because what we covered there will pair beautifully with what I’m sharing here.

Why “Balance” Looks Different for the Christian Woman

We hear a lot about balance these days: work-life balance, mom-life balance, spiritual balance. But for the follower of Christ, balance isn’t about managing everything perfectly—it’s about ordering our lives around the One who holds all things together.

True balance begins not with our calendars, but with our hearts. When we start with Jesus, our days flow with more peace, purpose, and grace.

Here are five biblical and practical rhythms to help you cultivate that kind of balance in your daily life—plus one bonus habit that’s transformed the way I engage with God’s Word.

1. Seek God First

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33

Balance begins in the presence of God. Jesus is preeminent. That means He is most important and should be the ‘center’ that our life revolves around. Let’s face it. The word balance implies that life is meant to get a certain way and stay a certain way…to remain static. But life is meant to move and breathe…to change and flow. And that can get scary at times. When we remember to center our lives on Him everything else will flow from there. He holds all things together…including you!   When we start our day with Him—even in small, simple ways—we’re better equipped to walk in peace rather than pressure.

Try This:

  • Begin your morning with quiet time, even if it’s just 5-10–15 minutes.

  • Keep a scripture verse or truth statement based on the Word somewhere you’ll see it often—on your mirror, coffee pot, or phone screen.

  • Pray a simple prayer before the day begins: “Lord, lead my schedule. Let Your peace be my pace.”

2. Know Your Season

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1

Life isn’t static. Recognizing your current season—whether you’re raising littles, caring for aging parents, working full-time, in the middle of a crisis, or simply navigating change—helps you approach balance with grace, not guilt.

Try This:

  • Honestly assess your capacity. What needs to stay? What can go?

  • Create loose rhythms for your day: a morning prep, a midday check-in, and an evening reset.

  • Prep the night before with your “future self” in mind (hello, laid-out clothes and prepped coffee).

3. Plan from Peace, Not Pressure

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart… and He will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

The world pushes us to hustle, but the Spirit invites us to rest.

When we plan with God, we shift from “What can I do?” to “God what do you want me to accomplish today? Where are you leading me?”

Try This:

  • Ask daily: “God, what matters most today?”

  • Choose your “Top 3” priorities each morning.

  • Leave margin in your planner. (White space is holy too).

4. Embrace Grace Over Perfection

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

You don’t have to get it all right to be walking in God’s will. Some days will be off. Some routines will crumble. That’s not failure—it’s life. God’s grace is still enough.

Try This:

  • Keep a “God’s grace today” or “God kisses” journal.

  • Speak God’s truth over guilt or overwhelm..

  • Start over when your day goes sideways—grace allows for new beginnings.

5. Walk With Others

“Let us consider how we may spur one another on… encouraging one another.” – Hebrews 10:24-25

We weren’t meant to carry life alone. Others are there to help when you’re stretched thin. Our community of fellow believers, sisters in Christ, lightens the load, speaks truth into chaos, and reminds us we’re not alone.

Try This:

  • Text a friend your prayer request or a verse.

  • Join a Bible study or women’s group.

  • Ask for help-it’s a strength, not a weakness.

BONUS: Move With the Word (Word Walking)

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:105

One rhythm that’s transformed my time with God is Word Walking—it’s a program that is based on the importance of walking while memorizing God’s Word. I’d love to go into more detail about it, but that is for another time. For now just take a 10–30 minute walk while meditating on a single verse. I say it out loud, pray through it, and let it shape my thoughts.

Try This:

  • Pick one verse for the week…and ‘walk it out’ everyday.

  • Take it one phrase at a time and reword it in your own words.

  • Ask God to show you what He wants to say to you in this verse(or verses).

  • Walk and speak it aloud—it becomes a walking prayer.

  • Record voice notes of what God shows you during the walk.

  • Go solo, take your kids, or walk the dog. Talk about the verse with your kids if they walk with you…what a great way to practice Deuteronomy 6:6-7

“These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

A Final Word

Friend, balance isn’t about having it all together. It’s about being held together—by Christ. As you build daily rhythms, let His Word be your guide, His grace your covering, and His Spirit your pace-setter.

Let’s walk in the Word, live by His wisdom, and pursue peace over perfection—one faithful step at a time.

Blessings,

ree
